Welcome Pandas!!!
Welcome to kindergarten! This year your child will be a part of an elite group named Portnoy's Pandas! As an early childhood educator, I believe an important part of children's social growth is building a strong classroom community. Throughout the year we will focus on building character. A few of the character traits we will learn about are: being respectful to others and property, accepting others for our differences, being responsible and making good choices, taking care of others, and honesty. By being a Portnoy's Panda your child will be a postive role model for others and will play an important role in our classroom community...our family!

On this website you will be able to find information you need to know
to help your child succeed this year in kindergarten.
Here are a few tips to help build a strong school-home connection.
Together we can make a difference!
Always Open
My door is always open. You are welcome to stop by any time to see what your child is learning at school! Please make sure to stop by the front office and get your visitor's sticker first. Any time you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Be Involved
Be involved in your child's education. Read nightly with your child and to your child. Children learn by example, so when they see you reading they will want to read also. Review letters, letter sounds, numbers, basic sight words with your child. Help your child find these around the house, on signs, and in books. Practice math skills at home by counting to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's, counting by 2's to 30, naming shapes, naming coins, and making simple addition/subtraction math problems. For example: Yesterday we had three apples. We ate two of them last night. How many apples do we have left? Give your child manipulatives to help them solve the math problem. Ask your child to explain how they came up with their answer as well.
Consistency
Children need consistency in their lives. They need to be able to make sense of their surroundings. Children need to know what to expect. You can do this at home by creating a daily/nightly routine. This will help set guidelines for when its homework time, play time, bed time etc. At school we have a daily routine we follow. This provides a safe learning environment where the children are comfortable and it gives every child the opportunity to succeed.
